Comments to the White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing

Last year, President Trump signed Executive Order 13878, “Establishing a White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing.” Historic Preservation requirements are among several “regulatory barriers” cited in the Executive Order. We know this is not true!

HUD issued a request for information asking the public to submit examples of regulatory barriers at the federal, state, and local level that impede affordable housing. Today is the deadline to submit comments. Here is what we submitted. We look forward to arming the preservation community with facts from our research and assignments across the country to change this perception of preservation.
